MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide studied for metabolic and exercise physiology research. Patients can request a telehealth evaluation through the TelosRX Telehealth Portal to discuss compounded access.

What Is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA. It is studied in preclinical research for metabolic regulation pathways.

MOTS-c is not an FDA-approved drug. It is available through compounding pharmacies under valid prescription.

Common Discussion Points

Patients often raise MOTS-c during evaluations for:

  • Mitochondrial function research interest
  • Metabolic optimization discussions
  • Insulin sensitivity research
  • Exercise physiology applications

A licensed provider determines clinical appropriateness individually.

Regulatory Context After the July 2026 PCAC Meeting

In July 2026 the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted to recommend adding MOTS-c to the list of substances that can be used in compounding, a non-binding step. On October 28, 2026, HHS announced a temporary enforcement discretion policy that covers single-ingredient subcutaneous or intramuscular MOTS-c compounded by state-licensed pharmacies with a valid prescription, under strict sourcing, testing and reporting conditions (Federal Register notice). It is not FDA approval, it applies only while FDA decides through rulemaking, and HHS can revisit it. Patients interested in compounded access should consult a licensed provider.
